What you get with this Photopea alternative
The main difference from Photopea is that PhotopixPro shows no ads and has no paid version. This is what else you get:
- The Photoshop menus and shortcuts. File, Edit, Image, Layer, Type, Select, Filter, View, Window and Help, in the same order as in Photoshop, with its default shortcuts. The shortcuts page lists them.
- PSD files with their layers. Groups, pixel and vector masks, clipping masks, adjustment and fill layers, editable text, smart objects and all ten layer styles open as layers you can edit, and your work saves as a PSD.
- Everyday images too. HEIC photos, camera RAW files from Canon, Nikon and Sony, DNG files, and JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF and GIF (first frame) open the same way, so one browser editor covers your PSD files and your JPG and PNG images.
- Clean exports. Export As writes PNG, JPG, WebP, TIFF, TGA or ICO with a preview and the estimated file size, and nothing is stamped on your image.
- Free for personal and commercial use, with no account, no sign-up and nothing to install.
- A page for each task. Open a PSD, convert PSD to PNG, PSD to JPG or convert HEIC to JPG: each page opens your file straight in the editor.
What Photopea adds
Photopea has AI tools, opens design and document formats such as PDF, AI and Figma, offers PSD templates and says it runs on any device. If you need any of that, use Photopea. PhotopixPro is built for desktop browsers and has no phone layout: it's for editing PSD files and everyday photos on a computer, with no ads.
Switching from Photopea
PhotopixPro follows the ten Photoshop menus and default shortcuts, so if you learned on a Photoshop-style editor such as Photopea, you'll find most commands where you expect them. Open one of your own PSD files to see it with its layers, and check any text layers: the web editor has two fonts, Inter and JetBrains Mono. If you're weighing Photoshop itself too, see how PhotopixPro compares with Photoshop.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best free alternative to Photopea?
It depends on what you need: PhotopixPro for a browser editor with no ads that opens and saves PSD files, GIMP or Krita for a free app you install, or Affinity, free for individuals. PhotopixPro also uses the same menus and shortcuts as Photoshop and needs no account. Photopea has AI tools and PhotopixPro doesn't.
Is there a Photopea alternative without ads?
Yes. PhotopixPro is a free online editor with no ads at all and no paid version. It opens and saves PSD files, opens everyday images such as JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC, follows the same menus and default shortcuts as Photoshop, and works on your files without uploading them.
What sites are like Photopea?
Browser editors that open PSD files come closest. PhotopixPro is one: it opens PSD files with their layers and everyday images such as JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC, uses the same menus as Photoshop and shows no ads. GIMP, Krita and Affinity also open PSD files, but they're apps you install. Our Photoshop alternatives page compares them side by side.
Is Photopea free?
Yes. Photopea is free to use and says it's funded mainly by advertising, with ads that may cover 5% to 15% of the screen. You can buy Premium, a one-time payment for a set period, such as 90 days, after which the account goes back to free. That's what Photopea's own pages said on October 18, 2026. PhotopixPro is free with no ads and no paid version.
Is Photopea as good as Photoshop?
Not in every way. Photopea says it fully supports PSD files and runs on any device, and it has AI tools. Photoshop runs on desktop, web and mobile, with Adobe's Firefly and other AI models, on a paid plan. We haven't compared every Photoshop feature with Photopea, so the fair test is your own files. If you want a browser editor with no ads, PhotopixPro is another option to try.
Is Photopea safe? Does it upload my files?
We can't vouch for another company's software, but Photopea says the files you open "never leave your device" and that it runs on your own CPU and GPU. PhotopixPro works the same way, reading and editing files inside your browser. So the difference between the two isn't where your files go: it's the ads, the AI tools and the formats each one opens.
What files can PhotopixPro open?
PSD and PSB files with their layers, JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, BMP, GIF (first frame only) and SVG (as shapes, without its text), HEIC and HEIF photos, camera RAW from Canon (CR2), Nikon (NEF), Sony (ARW) and DNG files, and Krita, Paint.NET and Affinity Designer documents. It doesn't open PDF, AI, EPS, AVIF or JPEG XL files.
Does PhotopixPro have AI like Photopea?
No. PhotopixPro has no AI or generative tools. Remove Background, Select > Subject and Select > Sky use classic algorithms instead. They work well on clean, simple backgrounds and less well when the subject blends into the scene, so check the result. If you need to change part of an image from a text description, Photopea has that.
Will my Photopea projects open in PhotopixPro?
PSD files saved by Photopea should open like any other PSD, with their layers, masks and text, but we haven't tested files from Photopea specifically. Check the text first, because PhotopixPro on the web only has the Inter and JetBrains Mono fonts, and anything in another font may switch to a substitute when you edit it.
