Convert HEIC to JPG without uploading your photos
To convert HEIC to JPG, drop the photo below or choose it. It opens in the PhotopixPro editor and the Export As window opens by itself with JPG selected: click Export. It isn't a one-click converter, but the photo is never uploaded, which matters when it shows your family, your home or a document. It's free and needs no account.
Drop the photo here, or use the button below. Your HEIC or HEIF photo opens in the editor with the Export As window ready.
HEIC, HEIF or HIF, one photo at a time. Read by your browser, never uploaded.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Open the photo
Drop the HEIC file on the box or use the button. It opens in the editor, and the Export As window opens by itself.
- Choose JPG
The window opens with JPG selected; if it isn't, pick JPG in Format. If the window didn't open, go to File > Export > Export As…
- Export
Leave the quality at 85 or move the slider, then click Export. The JPG downloads to your computer.
Why convert HEIC to JPG here
Photos from a phone are personal. With PhotopixPro, the photo never leaves your computer: your browser reads it, the editor converts it inside the tab, and the JPG downloads straight to your disk. The editor sends nothing back: it has no telemetry. The only thing our server sends you is the editor itself, about 11 MB on your first visit.
It's also a full photo editor, the same one as our PNG and JPG editor, so you can resize the photo with Image > Image Size… or brighten it with Curves or Levels before you export it.
Which HEIC files open
The editor opens HEIC and HEIF files in 8 and 10 bits, with transparency, including photos stored as a grid of tiles. We tested it with sample HEIC files, among them two tiled files, one of which was encoded by Apple. We haven't yet tried a full 12-megapixel iPhone photo with an HDR gain map. If your photo doesn't open or looks wrong, please tell us.
HEIC to JPG on an iPhone, Mac or Windows PC
On an iPhone: to make the camera save new photos as JPG instead of HEIC, open Settings, tap Camera, tap Formats and choose Most Compatible. Photos you've already taken stay in HEIC. Apple also notes that HEIC photos may be converted to JPG when you import them to a computer over USB, unless Keep Originals is selected under Settings > Apps > Photos.
On a Mac: open the photo in Preview, choose File > Export and pick JPEG in the Format menu. To convert several photos, open them in one Preview window, select them in the sidebar, then choose File > Export. Apple's Preview guide has the details.
On a Windows PC: use this page in a desktop browser. Nothing gets installed, which helps on a work or school computer where you can't add apps: the photo opens in the editor, and Export As turns it into a JPG. So far we've tested the editor in Chromium; other browsers are still on our list.

Frequently asked questions
Is it free to convert HEIC to JPG here? Is there a limit?
It's free, with no sign-up, no daily limit and no watermark. You convert one photo at a time, as many times as you like, and there are no ads. PhotopixPro is a product of PhotoPix Solutions, and our about page explains how it works and what it doesn't do.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Your browser reads the HEIC file from your disk, the editor converts it inside the tab, and the JPG downloads to your computer. Our server only sends the editor's own files. The editor has no telemetry or error reporting, so nothing about your photo leaves your device. You can check it in your browser's developer tools.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
A little, because JPG compression discards some detail. The quality starts at 85, and you can move the slider up to keep more detail in exchange for a bigger file. HEIC can store 10-bit color while JPG is 8-bit, so very subtle gradients, such as a clear sky, may lose some smoothness.
Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?
No, it's one photo at a time, because batch processing is turned off in the web version. To convert many photos at once on a Mac, open them in one Preview window, select them all in the sidebar and choose File > Export. To avoid HEIC in future photos, set your iPhone to Most Compatible (Settings > Camera > Formats).
Can I use it as a HEIC viewer, without converting?
Yes. The editor opens HEIC and HEIF photos directly, so it works as a free HEIC viewer in your browser: you can look at a photo, resize it or adjust its colors with Curves or Levels, and only export when you're ready. If you want to keep working on it later, File > Save downloads a PSD with your layers.
How do I open HEIC files on Windows?
Open this page in a desktop browser and choose the photo: it opens in the PhotopixPro editor and the Export As window opens by itself with JPG selected, so you click Export. Nothing is installed, which helps on a work or school PC. Photos copied from an iPhone to a PC may already be converted to JPG, Apple says, unless Keep Originals is selected.
How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?
Open Settings, tap Camera, tap Formats and choose Most Compatible. From then on, the camera saves new photos as JPG. Apple calls the HEIC option High Efficiency, and you can switch back to it at any time. Photos you took before the change stay in HEIC, so convert those here or on a Mac.
Can I convert HEIC to JPG here on my phone?
Not comfortably. The editor is built for computers with a keyboard and a mouse or pen, and it has no phone layout; on a phone, it offers to share the link so you can open it later on your computer. On an iPhone, the camera setting above avoids HEIC for new photos.
